Summary
We’re looking for a Working Student in Operations to keep HeyCharge running day-to-day. You’ll handle the physical and operational backbone of a fast-growing startup — office management, shipping and receiving, vendor coordination, and the unglamorous-but-essential work that determines whether a team of builders can actually focus on building.
Expect a hands-on, on-site role with real ownership of the things you touch. Less strategy decks, more “we need 20 wallboxes packed and shipped to a Vonovia site by Friday and the office coffee machine is broken.” Both matter; both are yours.
About HeyCharge
HeyCharge makes EV charging work in places it was never supposed to — underground garages, multi-tenant buildings, and any other concrete-and-rebar environment where cellular signal goes to die. Our offline-first SecureCharge platform uses Bluetooth for local session authentication and Zigbee mesh for inter-charger load management and cloud sync. No internet required at the charger; no compromise on reliability or billing accuracy.
We’re Munich-headquartered with team members across Germany, Ukraine, and the US, selling into property managers, utilities, and OEMs across Europe, the US, and Latin America. Our partners include Vonovia (Europe’s largest residential landlord), Easee and Emobi. We’re backed by Y Combinator and EU innovation funding, with a culture that’s Google-rooted on engineering, AI-first and automation-first on operations, and allergic to bureaucracy that doesn’t earn its keep.
Responsibilities
- Shipping & receiving: Coordinate incoming hardware (chargers, components, equipment) and outgoing shipments to installation sites and customers. Keep the logistics paperwork clean.
- Office management: Keep the Munich office running — supplies, snacks, meeting-room setup, deliveries, repairs, vendor visits. The office should be a place people want to come to.
- Hardware inventory: Track what’s on-hand, what’s been shipped, and what needs reordering. Help maintain a simple, accurate inventory system.
- Vendor coordination: Handle day-to-day vendor admin — orders, follow-ups, invoices, scheduling — for office services, suppliers, and logistics partners.
- New-hire onboarding logistics: Order and set up equipment for new joiners; make sure day-one feels welcoming, not chaotic.
- Small improvements: Spot the operational friction nobody else has time to fix, and fix it. Document what you change so it sticks.
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program at a German university (any field).
- Strong organizational skills and follow-through — you finish what you start, and you remember the small things.
- On-site presence in Munich required — this is a hands-on role, not remote.
- Fluent in English AND German — most of our suppliers and partners operate in German.
- Available 16–20 hours per week during semester (flexible around your study schedule; more hours possible during breaks).
- Comfort with everyday tools (Google Workspace, Slack, Notion). Bonus if you’ve used inventory or shipping software before.
Personal Characteristics
- Hands-on and pragmatic: You’d rather solve a problem than write a memo about it.
- Ownership mentality: You take responsibility for the spaces and processes you touch — and people notice.
- Detail-oriented: Lost packages, missed deliveries, and forgotten orders all start with one small thing being overlooked. You catch them.
- Adaptable: Operations means many small things, not one big thing. You’re comfortable switching contexts quickly.
Closing
If you want to see how a venture-backed hardware-and-software startup actually works from the inside, and you take pride in being the person who makes things run smoothly, we’d love to hear from you.
