Working Student – Finance

Munich Working Student €16 per hour Reports to Head of Commercial Operations

Summary

We’re looking for a Working Student in Finance to take on the recurring finance and HR administration that keeps HeyCharge running — invoice processing, payment preparation, expense checks, and the monthly document package our external bookkeepers and Steuerberater need. It’s the operational half of finance, and the consequences are real: a supplier who doesn’t get paid notices.

You’ll learn the mechanics of how a venture-backed company handles its money from the invoices themselves, not from a case study. Expect to be trusted with a process quickly — and expected to speak up when a number doesn’t look right.

About HeyCharge

HeyCharge makes EV charging work in places it was never supposed to — underground garages, multi-tenant buildings, and any other concrete-and-rebar environment where cellular signal goes to die. Our offline-first SecureCharge platform uses Bluetooth for local session authentication and Zigbee mesh for inter-charger load management and cloud sync. No internet required at the charger; no compromise on reliability or billing accuracy.

We’re Munich-headquartered with team members across Germany, Ukraine, and the US, selling into property managers, utilities, and OEMs across Europe, the US, and Latin America. Our partners include Vonovia (Europe’s largest residential landlord), Easee and Emobi. We’re backed by Y Combinator and EU innovation funding, with a culture that’s Google-rooted on engineering, AI-first and automation-first on operations, and allergic to bureaucracy that doesn’t earn its keep.

Responsibilities

  • Invoice processing: Enter and code incoming supplier invoices, route them for approval, and flag the ones that look wrong before they get paid.
  • Receivables support: Prepare and send customer invoices, keep the overdue list current, and send the follow-up reminders that actually get answered.
  • Expense and card admin: Check employee expense claims and corporate-card receipts against policy, and chase down the missing ones.
  • Bookkeeping handover: Assemble the monthly document package for our external bookkeeping firm and Steuerberater — receipts, statements, contracts — so nothing is missing when they ask.
  • HR administration support: Help maintain personnel files, onboarding paperwork, and holiday and sick-leave records. Accuracy matters more than speed here.
  • Reconciliation help: Match bank and card transactions against invoices and receipts, and build the list of what still doesn’t tie.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program at a German university — business, finance, accounting, or economics preferred, but not required.
  • Fluent German and English — our suppliers, payroll provider, and tax advisors all work in German.
  • Genuinely comfortable in spreadsheets. Sorting, filtering, and lookups shouldn’t be new to you.
  • Available 16–20 hours per week during semester, flexible around lectures, with more possible during breaks.
  • On-site in Munich for part of the week — some of this work still involves paper and people.
  • Discretion: you’ll see salary figures and personal data. Nice to have: a first internship in finance, accounting, or a Steuerberatung, or hands-on time with DATEV.

Personal Characteristics

  • Detail-oriented: A transposed digit in an invoice number costs someone an afternoon. You notice before it ships.
  • Hands-on and pragmatic: You’d rather clear the backlog than schedule a meeting about the backlog.
  • Ownership mentality: You finish what you start and follow up without being asked twice.
  • Automation-first: Once you’ve done the same manual step three times, you start asking whether it needs a human at all.

Closing

If you want to see how a venture-backed startup actually handles its money — from the invoice up, not the org chart down — we’d love to hear from you. Tell us what you’re studying and how many hours a week you can give us.
